JetBlue Airlines allows passengers to bring one personal item and one carry-on item without having to pay any charges for them. But there are certain conditions for the personal item. The size of the personal item must not be more than 17 by 13 by 8 inches and must be able to fit comfortably underneath the seat in front of you. On the other hand, the size of the carry-on bag must not be more than 22 by 14 by 9 inches. Blue Basic is the only fare class which does not allow free carry-on bags. Passengers of the Blue Basic fare can only bring one personal item which only fits underneath the seat. If the travellers need overhead bin space, then they will have to pay extra for that or they will have to pay to upgrade to Blue or Blue Extra.

In the case of checked baggage, the fee depends on various factors like the type of fare you choose, whether you have prepaid for your baggage through an app or during the booking or whether you are going to pay at the airport. If you have made a reservation under Blue Basic, Blue and Blue Extra fare, then for the first bag, you will have to pay a fee of $35 and for the second bag $45, if you pay at the airport or within 24 hours of the departure. Here you need to note that if you pay in advance then you will get $5 off. In case you want to carry a third bag as well, then for that you will have to pay a fee of $150. You also need to be mindful of the size and weight of the checked baggage. The size of the checked baggage must not be more than 62 inches and the weight of the checked baggage must not exceed 50 pounds.

There are some exceptions however. There are certain people who get to avoid the JetBlue baggage fee. Those exceptions are as follows:

  1. Mint passengers and Mosaic members are allowed to check up to two bags for free.
  2. Travellers who paid for their flight with a JetBlue Plus Card get their first checked bag free, along with three people on the same reservation.
  3. Passengers who have a Blue Plus fare get one free checked bag.

To summarise everything and for your clarity, the following points have been mentioned:

  1. In case of Blue Basic fares, the charges for the first checked baggage are $35 and for the second checked bag are $45.
  2. In the case of the Blue fare, the charges for the first checked baggage are $35 and for the second checked bag are $45.
  3. In case of the Blue Plus fare, the charges for the first checked baggage are included and for the second checked bag are $45.
  4. In the case of the Blue Extra fare, the charges for the first checked baggage are $35 and for the second checked bag are $45.
  5. In case of Mint Fare, the charges for both, the first checked bag as well as the second checked bag are included.
  6. In case of Mosaic Fare, the charges for both, the first checked bag as well as the second checked bag are included.
  7. In case of the JetBlue Plus cardmembers, the charges for the first checked baggage are included and for the second checked bag are $45.
  8. Overweight and oversize fees

While travelling with JetBlue Airlines, you need to take care of the weight and size of your baggage. If your baggage exceeds the weight and size limit, then you will have to pay the fees. If your baggage weighs between 51 and 99 pounds or measures 63 to 80 inches in overall dimensions, then you will be liable to pay an excess fee. If your baggage is either overweight or oversized then the excess fee you will have to pay will be $150 per bag. In case your bag is both overweight and oversized then both the fees will be applicable.

There are not any exceptions for overweight and baggage fees. In case of certain sports equipment like skis, golf bags etc., the restriction of size will not be considered if they are within the weight limits.

In February, 2021, JetBlue made an announcement that most of the customers can cancel or change their flight without having to pay any additional fee. JetBlue
eliminated change and cancellation fees on Blue, Blue Extra, Blue Plus and Mint fares. For the customers who booked themselves in Blue Basic, which is the lowest fare class of JetBlue, tickets can be changed or cancelled by paying a fee.

Here we would like to mention that if you are changing your flight, and the flight you book costs more than the previous one, then you will have to pay the difference.

In some exceptional cases, people get to avoid the change and cancellation fee. Those exceptional cases are as follows:

  1. Mosaic members and anyone on the same reservation as a Mosaic member can have the benefit of waived change and cancellation fees. Blue Basic fares are not included.
  2. Anyone who has made a travel booking at least seven days in advance of departure and cancels the reservation within 24 hours of booking. This is known as the Jetblue 24 hours cancellation policy.
  3. Any traveller who has booked a refundable fare and cancels their flight reservation before the scheduled departure of the flight.

JetBlue Partner Award Booking Fee

JetBlue allows award bookings only on Hawaiian Airlines. The charges for point bookings are $25 per person. There is an exception under which the travellers get to avoid this fee. If you have a very convincing case that you are not able to book the award travel online, then you might be able to get the fee waived.

According to what JetBlue says, seat availability is not guaranteed but if you have already bought a ticket, then you can request it to be added to the standby list for any sold out flight on the same day as your original flight. If you want to join the list, then you will have to pay a fee of $75.

In case you have booked a Mint flight and there is another Mint flight available on the same day of travel that has Mint seat availability, then a $75 same-day change fee will also be charged.

Here we would also like to mention that unaccompanied minors can only travel on nonstop flights.
